# SIT LaTeX kit (TeXstudio, Overleaf, any TeX distribution)

Templates for Shaggar Institute of Technology staff. They follow the SIT Brand Identity:
Dark Blue #02272F, Light Orange #FE5823, Light Blue #8AC4C7, Mist #CFDFDC and Poppins.

Two families, kept visibly different:
* Academic (sitbrand.sty heads): carry the four-circle virtue motif and the orange star.
* Administrative (Word only): the same four circles in outline, with the centre left in the paper colour.

## Quick start (no installation)
1. Unzip this folder anywhere and keep the files together (logos/ and fonts/ must sit next to the .tex files).
2. Open a template in TeXstudio and press F5 (Build & View).
3. Every template begins with `% !TeX program = xelatex`, so TeXstudio uses XeLaTeX automatically.
LuaLaTeX also works. pdfLaTeX compiles too, but swaps Poppins for TeX Gyre Heros.

Requires TeX Live 2020+ or MiKTeX 2020+ (both install missing packages on demand). Packages used:
fontspec, iftex, xcolor, graphicx, tikz, eso-pic, lastpage, tabularx, enumitem, exam, beamer, tcolorbox, listings.

## Use it as a TeXstudio template ("File > New from Template")
1. Install the brand files once so any document can find them:
   * Install the Poppins fonts in fonts/ on your computer (double-click each .ttf > Install).
   * Copy sitbrand.sty, beamerthemeSIT.sty and the logos/ PDFs into your personal TeX tree:
     - macOS (MacTeX): ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/sit/
     - Linux (TeX Live): ~/texmf/tex/latex/sit/
     - Windows (MiKTeX): create C:\Users\<you>\texmf\tex\latex\sit\, then MiKTeX Console > Settings > Directories > add C:\Users\<you>\texmf, and click Tasks > Refresh file name database.
     - TeX Live on Windows: C:\Users\<you>\texmf\tex\latex\sit\ then run `texhash`.
2. Copy texstudio/templates/* into TeXstudio's user template folder:
   - Windows: %APPDATA%\texstudio\templates\user\
   - macOS / Linux: ~/.config/texstudio/templates/user/
Restart TeXstudio. The SIT templates appear under File > New from Template.
3. Optional: autocompletion for the SIT commands. Copy texstudio/completion/sitbrand.cwl into
   ~/.config/texstudio/completion/user/ (Windows: %APPDATA%\texstudio\completion\user\), then
Options > Configure TeXstudio > Completion and tick sitbrand.cwl.
4. Options > Configure TeXstudio > Build > Default Compiler: XeLaTeX (recommended).

## Overleaf
Upload the whole folder as a project, then Menu > Compiler > XeLaTeX.

## Common settings
* US Letter paper: change `a4paper` to `letterpaper` in the geometry line.
* Trilingual letterhead (Afaan Oromo / Amharic / English lockup): `\usepackage[trilingual]{sitbrand}`.
* Amharic text: `\usepackage[amharic]{sitbrand}` and write `\amh{...}`. Needs Noto Sans Ethiopic,
Abyssinica SIL, Kefa (macOS) or Nyala (Windows).
* Ethiopian-calendar date beside the Gregorian date: `\SITdateEC{5 Tikimt 2019}`.
* Exam answer key: uncomment `\printanswers`. The cover shows ANSWER KEY and solutions print in orange.
* Institution contact line: +251 996 026 070 | info@sit.edu.et | www.sit.edu.et. Edit \SITphone, \SITemail, \SITweb (and the optional \SITaddress) in sitbrand.sty once.
* Document control: \SITref{...} and \SITversion{...} print in the footer of every template.

## Page patterns
The page artwork comes from the official SIT pattern files (logos/sit-pattern-footer.pdf and logos/sit-pattern-header.pdf, vector, A4). Which one a document uses follows its priority:

* Footer pattern (formal): letters, exam covers, thesis covers.
* Header pattern: memos, handouts, syllabi, exam question pages, assignments.

Academic documents carry the orange star in the four circles. Administrative offices use the Word templates only, where the four circles are an outline with no star.

## Departments
Every academic template has a `\SITdept{ELE}` line near the top. It prints the department name and adds the department's colour tab to the page pattern (top of the right rule on footer-pattern pages, bottom of the left rule on header-pattern pages):

| Code | Department | Colour |
| --- | --- | --- |
| ELE | Electrical Engineering | #EEBE41 |
| MEC | Mechanical Engineering | #4DC8FE |
| NUC | Nuclear Engineering | #FE5823 |
| BIO | Biotechnology | #0D4853 |
| AI | AI | #8AC4C7 |
| SPS | Space Science | #CFDFDC |
| PHY, MAT, HUM, ENC | Physics, Mathematics, Humanities, English and Communication | #EAE4D2 |

Delete the line (or comment it out) for documents from the Academic Vice Provost, Research Vice Provost, Registrar or LMS, which carry no colour tab.

## Notes
* The brand display face CA Saygon is a commercial font, so the kit uses Poppins (the brand's
day-to-day typeface) everywhere. If SIT licenses Saygon, it can be added in sitbrand.sty.
* Compile twice so page counts (Page 1 of N) and exam point totals are correct.
